"When my oldest comes home, its a real event with friends and family coming and going for the entire visit. It fabulous but its wearing and forget cooking...I'd never be able to enjoy his visit home! I always place a huge Schwan's order right before he comes home to cover the company.
After his last deployment I found him looking out the dining room window in the middle of the night, watching the snow fall. When I asked if he was okay, he said "Mom, I miss winter, snowmen, and chicken pot pie..." at 4am I wasn't really ready to fire up the stove but I thought I might be able to bring him a little of what he missed.
I had Schwan's Chicken Pot Pies in the freezer and I made the entire box of four in the oven while he sat in the dining room. When they were nearly done he came wandering into the kitchen and asked if that smell was what he thought it was... I took them out of the oven and he dug in with a smile I hadn't seen in a long time.
When he finished he saw the packaging and said "wow, those are almost like yours, Mom...thanks."
I can't give you a better recommendation than that...I'm a darn good cook and my boys know good food. My oldest looks to home and home cooking to mend his soul...and Schwans is almost like yours, Mom....
